Two Things

I’ve got two things to talk about. The first one’s fun. The second is a little more mixed (but not bad).

First then, I’ve joined up with a bunch of other superhero fiction authors to create a group for mutual promotion. It’s called The Pen and Cape Society. Please check out the website. For what it’s worth, I wrote  a short “origin story” for how I came to write superhero fiction.

Some of you may have seen the second thing in the comments of the most recent post, but I thought I’d address it in it’s own post where people are likely to actually read it.

1889 Labs put out the first Legion of Nothing book, and they did a great job. Unfortunately the owner of 1889 Labs (a small press) has had to deal with a series of unfortunate life events. The result is that he won’t be putting out any more books for a while.

The practical result of that is that I’m on my own with regards to publishing. This isn’t the end of the world, but it requires a bit of work on my part. Also, a bit of money. Why money? I’d like to rehire the same artist as we used for the first cover, and have someone go over the final draft for typos (some of which will likely have been introduced by editing).

Thus, I’ll likely do a Kickstarter campaign in the next month or two. Hopefully there will be a good response.

Placeholder

Hey folks…

Just letting people know that tomorrow’s post will appear around noon tomorrow (Michigan time). My wife and I are doing something tonight, and while I’ve got the next update half finished, I won’t be able to get it done. Fortunately, I’m taking tomorrow off, and can easily finish the next post tomorrow morning.

Thus, I’m letting you know.

It’ll Appear Tomorrow

Basically here’s the deal. I’m not done yet, and this is my 18th wedding anniversary. While I’d love to finish this right now, I have this feeling that my wife will be mildly* unhappy if I completely ignore her for the next few hours (my normal policy for Sunday nights).

Other people would probably have planned for this and finished already. Those other people aren’t me.

* “Mildly” == “Very” in this context.

Blog Tour

Hey folks…

I just thought I’d pass along this link: http://fmbblogtours.blogspot.com.au/2012/07/tour-schedule-legion-of-nothing-rebirth.html

Basically it lists many of the sites that I’m appearing on as a result of the “blog tour” I’m doing to promote the book. I’ve done  a few readings that I’ve put on a Youtube, a couple blog posts, interviews, and also, there are a few posted excerpts of the book.

Plus, if you want there are a couple giveaways associated with it. There’s the Goodreads giveaway which I’ve mentioned before, but I’ll mention again: http://www.goodreads.com/giveaway/show/28765-the-legion-of-nothing-rebirth. That’s for a print copy.

There’s also the other giveaway my publisher’s doing: http://1889.ca/2012/07/the-legion-of-nothing-blog-tour-begins-win-a-kindle/

Basically, you can win a variety of things, ranging from a LoN t-shirt to print book to Kindle plus ebook copy.

You can also sign up for my mailing list, and be updated every time there’s a new LoN book or other update related to my writing: Legion of Nothing newsletter. That said, signing up for the mailing this through the giveaway link counts as 3 entries into the drawing, so if you’re on Facebook, you might as well do it through the 1889 Labs link.

OK… Almost done with the self-promotional stuff.

Finally, if you feel the urge to write me a review or simply rate the first book (which amounts to “The Beginning” through “1953”, please do. It’ll help the book be more visible, and increase chances people will buy it. For what it’s worth, even if you’ve just read it on this site, you’re still qualified to rate it. It’s very similar (though I’d like to think it’s improved).

Shutting up about this stuff now…

Legion of Nothing: Rebirth Now on Kindle

The Legion of Nothing: Rebirth (Volume 1)Just for the record, folks, here’s a link to my publisher’s announcement about Legion of Nothing. The first volume is out for Kindle. Other formats will follow soon. I’ve got the epub version (for Nook, and most other ereaders) already, but there’s a little work to be done there, I guess.

Oh, and those of you who have read it (it amounts to “The Beginning” through “1953”), feel free to review it.

Reviews greatly help it get noticed.

EDIT: For that matter, if you’ve read the online version, feel free to review it too. You’ve read the story. The online version is simply an earlier draft.

Looking for Suggestions…

The first Legion of Nothing book The Legion of Nothing: Rebirth will be published this month. Sadly, that means I’ve got to promote it. 1889 Labs, the small press that’s publishing it has a list of book reviewers that they’re undoubtedly going to give “Advanced Review Copies” (henceforth, ARC’s) to.

My plan is to add to that by giving ARC’s to comic book blogs (or sites) in the hopes that it might be reviewed there too. Actually, for that matter, I’m thinking I might contact a few sites that are generally oriented toward geeky things.

I’m aware of a few (the ones I personally read), but I know I’m not aware of every place that might review or promote the book.

Do you have suggestions?

Oh, and just for the record, here are some links related to this:
