Vote Legion, See New Cover

Hey folks, as mentioned earlier, I’d like to use seeing the second Legion of Nothing novel’s cover as a vote incentive.

Please vote for Legion of Nothing on Top Web Fiction, and see the new cover.

EDIT: When I did this for the last cover, we actually got Legion up to the number one spot on TWF. TWF’s top spot is higher now than it was then, but Legion also has enough readers to reach it (temporarily, at least).

EDIT: I think this is the most votes LoN has ever gotten at once–169.

EDIT: Wow. 200.

EDIT: 255 and up to third place at one point which was cool as LoN is generally at 8th.

EDIT: Highest rank LoN got was 3rd with a 273 vote total–which is great.

Next Update is Friday

Here’s what’s up: I usually finish my updates the night before they’re due. However Wednesday night is my wife’s and my wedding anniversary.

Writing on Wednesday night would tend to send the message that writing Legion is more important to me than our marriage.

For the record, this is a bad message to send. Thus I’ll be finishing on Thursday night/Friday morning.

See you then.

Threat Analysis: Part 10 (April Fools!)

It was at this point that a mental block fell away, and I gained a new memory. It had my full attention. Mostly because I had no choice in the matter, but at the same time I wondered how the block had been put there, and if this past event was somehow relevant to our current situation.

It was from almost a year ago. A few of us had gotten together at the end of the summer for one last DVD Night in the Heroes League HQ. Cassie’s idea. Before the start of University.

By “a few of us”, I meant me, Cassie, Daniel, Haley, Vaughn, Jaclyn, Marcus, and Travis. No one from Justice Fist, Kayla was busy, and my sister Rachel hadn’t come – I think she’d been performing somewhere. So the basketball court sized room with the huge TV screen felt a little emptier than on some previous occasions.

We’d watched “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home”, had a good laugh about the part with transparent aluminum (considering what we used in our League vehicles), and were getting ready to go home. That part I remembered. Then the Rocket showed up.

That part was new. Continue reading Threat Analysis: Part 10 (April Fools!)

PCS: The Good Fight 2: Villains

GoodFight2-cover-300dpi Just letting you know that the Pen and Cape Society is putting out another anthology. There’s a Legion of Nothing universe story in it. If it matters to you, Lee’s one of the major characters in it (though not the main character).

EDIT: I should also mention that it’s a benefit for James Hudnall, a writer (of many comics and recently novels) who is experiencing hard times at the moment.

Incompetent Home Repair

So… This can’t be confused with a good day. I awoke thinking that it was a little cold in the house. When I got downstairs, the thermostat showed 53 degrees. It was also blinking “LO” as in low battery. I changed the batteries to some batteries we had lying around.

No improvement.

As I still had time before work, I ran to the hardware store and bought new batteries and a new filter while I was at it.

No improvement.

So now I’m home and have bought a new thermostat (since even with brand new batteries none of the buttons worked). It claims that it can be installed in 15 minutes.

The last time I installed a thermostat it took two hours, largely because we have old, brittle wiring that has a tendency to break if manipulated.

Nonetheless, I’m going to take a shot at it tonight, and if I get too frustrated, I’m going to call a furnace repairman tomorrow.

How this will affect Legion’s update schedule remains to be seen.

Anniversary of the First Post on Nov. 8, 2007

I think that everything I had to say about this appears in the title of this post, but I’ll go a little further anyway.

This series has been going for seven years and will start it’s eighth today. It’s safe to say that I had no idea when I started this series that I would still be doing it now.

I had absolutely no idea that I’d be attempting to turn it into a series of books, or that the first one would be published by 1889 Labs, a small press. Basically, I’d always assumed that it would be a series on the web, and that would be it.

Actually, I’d thought that it would be a way to draw attention to other books that I’d write and publish through traditional publishers. As of now, I’ve yet to write said books, but when they do happen, they’ll probably be self-published–quite possibly on the web first.

Thanks for reading.

Kickstarter! (for book 2 and hopefully 3)

Here we go. You know how I’ve been talking about the Kickstarter, and how it would be up on Wednesday. Well, it’s Wednesday. Now I’ll grant you that I’ve been trying to finish this thing since May, and so you might not have been expecting to see it after all this time.

Nonetheless, the moment has arrived. I’ve finally gotten so sick of editing the video that I’ve put up the Kickstarter anyway. Seriously. That’s what’s been holding this up. This is version number four. It’s still got noticeable problems, but there’s a time where you ignore the problems and take a step forward.

This is mine.

Oh… One more thing. According to Kickstarter, 90% of a project’s donations come from people already connected to the project owner.

That’d be you. You, and my friends and family anyway. So, no pressure, but, if you feel maybe a little pressure, well, that would help. The Kickstarter will go on for a month, ending on November 14, 2014.

Pen and Cape Society Stuff

Champion Ebook CoverIan Healy, a fellow author in the Pen and Cape Society is releasing a new book soon. If you’re interested in pre-ordering it, you can do so at any of the links below. They’re also a great place to read the cover copy, and see if you’re interested in the book.

I’d intended to do a “cover reveal” here, but inexplicably, I don’t have and can’t get, write permissions to the folder I upload media into–this despite having a decent level of access to my server. Anyway, while I wait for my web host to get back to me you can see the cover at the links below:

Related to that, another PCS member, Marion Harmon is releasing a new book today. Here’s a link (though I recommend reading the previous books in the series first).

Next Update: Friday

Sorry to tell you now, but I’m pushing the next update over to Friday. I thought I might be able to write it all last night, but that didn’t work out.

Today, however, is my wife’s birthday, and last night it occurred to me that doing my usual thing on Wednesday (writing until the update’s done, and basically ignoring everything else) would probably be a bad idea.

Thus, I’ll be finishing it up on Thursday, and posting somewhere between 1 and 2 EST on Friday.

In the meantime, if you do read the Pen and Cape Society website, you’ll note that I’m on the list as one of three options for Friday’s story update there. You can guess why I might be apphrensive about this. Feel free to click through and vote for well… anybody but me.
