Putting the suit on and checking the systems took a good ten minutes as usual. I ran down a tunnel to the exit in the middle of the forest in Veterans’ Memorial Park. It felt good to be in the full suit. The last time had to have been when I’d bugged Magnus’ house in Chicago — almost a month ago now.
The doors opened above me and I jumped, making it a good twenty feet before the rockets kicked in and took me the rest of the way into the sky. The trees went past in a blur of branches. I found myself looking down on the city lights almost before I realized it.
I caught Vaughn on the way out of the lunchroom. We didn’t have any classes together and we hadn’t eaten together lately because Cassie had been spending a lot of time with Kayla. Repairing relations, I guessed.
Vaughn had been talking with a couple other guys. Neil leaned against the wall next to the door, tracing the tattooed dragon on his forearm while Dave talked. “… someone called the cops and we ended up climbing the fence while holding our skateboards. They caught Mike, but Neil and I got away.”
Somehow my kids managed to drench my cat while taking their bath.
Now he wants to sit on my lap.
Note: I’d apologize for getting this up as late as I did today, but bearing in mind that this has happened every week for a while now, I probably shouldn’t. Instead, I’ll just mention that if I ever do start posting on Monday night around midnight like I sometimes used to, imagine how surprised you’ll be.
On other matters, I’m thinking I might need to lighten up the background of the comment area and depending on how easy it turns out to be, I may make a couple other small changes to the theme. Let me know if you find anything hard to read.
Sorry about how late this is. I aim for early Tuesday and I’ve actually managed early Wednesday. And the main reason I’ve managed to get it up now is that I couldn’t sleep.
Note to self: Do not drink two cups of tea before going to bed. You will regret it.
I should also mention an annoying thing. I’m probably not going to update on Friday. I’m going camping this weekend and I’m leaving on Thursday. I will be on track to update next Tuesday though.
About ten (fifteen?) years ago when I came up with the idea for the Rocket, one of my friends drew him. It isn’t precisely how I imagined him, but it’s close.
And pretty cool.
I probably should have saved this for a day when I didn’t have anything to post…
