It took less than a second for him to fly under me, flip around to face me and grab my throat with both hands.
His face told me everything I needed to know about his intentions. Screaming incoherently at me, he squeezed the armor around my neck. It didn’t break, but I could feel it move under his fingers. Cords of muscle visible in his forearms, he strained his arms to put as much force into the squeeze as he could.
For that moment, my armor held.

In the Public Eye: Part 30
Putting the suit on and checking the systems took a good ten minutes as usual. I ran down a tunnel to the exit in the middle of the forest in Veterans’ Memorial Park. It felt good to be in the full suit. The last time had to have been when I’d bugged Magnus’ house in Chicago — almost a month ago now.
The doors opened above me and I jumped, making it a good twenty feet before the rockets kicked in and took me the rest of the way into the sky. The trees went past in a blur of branches. I found myself looking down on the city lights almost before I realized it.
In the Public Eye: Part 21
With this update we resolve a cliffhanger… Also, remember how I said it was longer than I expected? Figure it’s twice the length of some.
In the Public Eye: Part 20
Starting on the next one now… I’m trying to get ahead so things get up on time for Friday. Friends of mine decided to start a science fiction book club. I’ll be going to the first meeting Thursday night.
In the Public Eye: Part 19
The scene shifts and we get to see a couple characters that haven’t appeared for a while–plus the odd costumed menace.
In the Public Eye: Part 10
And we have an update…
Oh, for what it’s worth, I attended Penguicon on Saturday. It’s a convention that’s focused on science fiction and open source software. It’s worth going if you happen to be in the area and like either of the two. I went largely because a friend was on a couple panels, but had a good time. Randall Munroe of xkcd was every bit as amusing as you might expect.
From the Past: Part 5
To judge from length alone, this probably should have been two posts. Unfortunately, it didn’t have a convenient end point in the middle.
From the Past: Part 4
I spent far too much of my time preventing my cat from taking a nap on my laptop while writing this.
As in on the keyboard. While I’m typing. What’s up with that?
Lightning Strikes Twice: Part 5
This post is late for a variety of reasons ranging from a nasty cold that kept me home from work to personal responsibilities that needed attention…
On the bright side, it’s up.
The Legion of Nothing–Chapter Eight: Who Guards the Guardians?
So this is the end of this section of the story. Really, I suppose it’s end of the beginning. What I’m hoping to do with the next section is try for twice weekly updates. I’m not sure that that’s possible because I’m attempting to simultaneously run a small business (web development), raise kids, and write a completely separate novel, but hey, I’ll try.
Mind you, each update may be shorter than the last few, but who knows…
